She nods, staring into her mug, then at the brightly decorated kitchen, anywhere but at me.

“It’ll be okay,” I reassure her, hoping her nerves come from telling Holly the truth, not from my blatant flirting. It’s inappropriate, I know, but I can’t seem to help myself. Even now, bundled in that sweater, chatting about Holly, she holds my attention captive.

Noelle is the one girl who’s always held that power over me effortlessly, without even trying.
